Why I Started Why Mandarin
After years of teaching Mandarin and Cantonese to English speakers in Hong Kong, I noticed a consistent pattern: most students hit a wall because traditional teaching methods rely on memorization rather than understanding.
I realized that English speakers learn Chinese best when we explain it through an English speaker's mindset—using familiar sound associations, breaking down tones into patterns, and building confidence from day one.
That's why I created Why Mandarin. Not just to teach language, but to build confidence and a solid foundation that students can build on for life.
